Sample Recruitment Project
This is the kind of useful information you can glean from an EPV model. Given the limitations of the data I had access to, I’ve given myself some interesting restrictions to make the brief a bit more challenging than just suggesting a bunch of Chelsea and Man City players. I hope you find it interesting. In a normal player data report, I would have included far more different bits of data, but I felt that the simple ‘dashboard’ presented gives a very good overview of a player’s strengths and weaknesses as well as their common positioning.
Deeper dives into a player might include comparing their passes against their peers using kNN or clustering, measuring how injury prone they are (I don’t have the depth of data for this) and projecting their likely career value trajectory both on the pitch and financially (again, lack of data). I see a brief overview like this as a good long-listing tool, rather than one that will find the perfect player.
